King Crimson

This song is never wrong. I can listen to it so many times… The lyrics are so well written.

King Crimson, founded by Robert Fripp (guitar) and Michael Giles (drummer) was among the first bands using distorted vocals in their music. Not only was their 21st Century Schizoid Man a musical revolution, but their first and second albums formed the grunge genre as well as being a great inspiration to the pioneers of mellotron rock and heavy metal. In addition, they also implemented active improvisation as a major musical element.

The band’s line-up has fluctuated chaotically ever since the 70’s, and the band has split up and reunited four times. King Crimson has had 18 musicians pass through its ranks as full band members. Many others have collaborated with the band at various points in lyric-writing, the studio and in live performance. Most of the musicians who have been members of King Crimson had notable musical careers outside the band, to the extent that it has been calculated that there are over a thousand releases on which members and former members of King Crimson appear. To this band I only express love and inspiration.

Epitaph:
“The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
As silence drowns the screams.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying…”

Bought new films today. Yay to that! I am going to watch them as soon as I have time…

Plus, now I have 98 films in my tiny collection. I will have to celebrate the 99th and 100th film with traditional Schwedisch cake and coffee!

…But first some more Gears of War 2…

Feeling Popular

Posted in Artwork, Me with tags , , , , , on April 22, 2010 by Eyeless

In this post I want to thank all the deviants (on deviantArt) for favouring my art, following my profile and decorating my page with flattering comments! This week I have been busy 24/7 with replying comments while finishing requests standing in line. At the same time, my artsy side has been at war with school, so I have a ton of half-ways done artwork and an equal bunch of half-ways done school assignments!

That was kind of all I wanted to say for today. Oh, and I am downloading some mods for Mount & Blade, so I will try some of them out tonight (or, is it morning now? I don’t know, I live in the Swedish polar darkness)… See if they are any good. As soon as I am finished with some of the new drawings and sketches I will post them here, but if you wish you can always stay updated via my deviantArt page. I am always online. No, I am not a community addict…*sarcasm*…

Porträtt av en Dystymi.

Posted in Writings with tags , , , , on April 18, 2010 by Eyeless

Sorry folks, this is in Swedish. Shouldn’t even upload it here. But I did anyway. Because I’m mean.

Tanklöst, Livlöst…Bortom all räddning

The Impact of an Artist

Posted in Me with tags , , , , , , , on April 11, 2010 by Eyeless

Let’s talk a little more about me. Just to waste time. I commented on Charlie’s blog, in one of her posts she talked about her art and why she is doing what she does, and my comment was not really short because reading her post inspired me a bit and I kind of feel the same about dark, evil and grotesque stuff. I have pasted my comment below and edited it a bit, so it will be a bit more “entertaining” and readable. Perhaps, it might be a chance for you to get to know me better.

“I just like dark stuff… and I have always been the deviant one in my family, even since I was born…Oh well, we are four quite deviant brothers in the family, but I think the others will agree that I am the weirdest of us on the inside. If you ever knew me as a kid or have seen videos of me as a baby you will see I was weird even then.

I lived in the imaginary, and until I was 2-3 years old I was nearly unreachable. It is obvious that my favourite interest became creating. Not painting, not playing, just creating. Often when playing with other kids, I found it hard to express my feelings and thoughts in words; they where simply not enough for me. Instead I went home, drew a picture of my thoughts and went back to play, sometimes finding that the others had grown tired of waiting for me and gone home.

Apart from mechanisms like life experience and different religious beliefs you could almost say that I have always been the same. If something has changed, it must be my way of thinking, and how I interact with people. But my “dark” interests, weird imagination and creativity have always existed within my twisted little mind.

As an artist, hehe I should really stop ranting soon, but, I like to have an impact on people. I want my art to make people think, not just receive comments like: “ooh, it so beautiful!” But more like when I showed my art to some colleagues in school: “Oh, how beau- WHAT IS THAT!? Oh my god, that looks painful! That poor thing!

That is the kind of reaction or thoughts I want to give people; I want them to accept and embrace the darker sides of life, not run away from it. I have lived in that dark zone for as long as I can remember…and I have never truly seen the sun like you people do, but There is no reason to run away from evil and hope that the dark corners of the Earth will never reach you, but truth is, you have always been there.

Kick-Ass (5/5)

Posted in Film with tags , , , , , , on April 10, 2010 by Eyeless

Is it that obvious it kicked ass? Well, it truly did!

When I first saw the teaser trailer I thought: “Looks quite cool and could be funny, but it really looks like any other teen comedy I have seen.” Then, shortly after my brother asked me if I wanted to join him on the première on April 9th, and I thought “yeah, why not?” He also showed me the second trailer, which is a bit more….”correct”, so to speak. I loved it and was very surprised, since it showed a completely different side of the film. Awesome! A couple of days later we saw it, and I was simply blown away…

The movie is about Dave Lizewski. He is literally invisible to everyone in school, apart from his friends. Katie is his biggest crush, but she doesn’t notice him either and he is to shy to ask her out. He is a fan of superhero comics, and one day he asks his friends: “How come no one’s ever tried being a superhero?” A few days later, a video pops up on youtube showing a vigilante in a scuba diving suit called “Kick-Ass”, getting his ass kicked by three gang members. This particularly weird event sets off a wave of newcomer superheroes like Big Daddy, Hit-Girl and Red Mist; a sudden wave that strikes back against crime with such force that the local Mafia boss Frank D’Amico is greatly worried…and frustrated.

I have really nothing else to say other than you must see this movie! I do not want to spoil too much, because I realized that Matthew Vaughn deliberately chose to show a trailer that made Kick-Ass look like a typical teenage comedy to really bring out the element of surprise out of it. I call this “The Kick-Ass Effect”, which is when you believe something to be average, but when watching it you are blown away by its awesomeness!

Also, I will cite a review on the film by some Mark Brown guy on imdb:

“Watching “Kick Ass” is ultimately like being on a thrill-ride, it doesn’t just want to dazzle you, it’s wants to draw you in, ride the wave and leave the cinema on a high. And it doesn’t do that with gimmicks or tried and tested formula’s, it breaks the mold, shakes conventions and wants you to be surprised while complementing all the movies you already love. It’s not just a movie, it’s a standard, one that promises to prove movies like this can be written with great heart and brain.
And ultimately you’ll be leaving the screen thinking “Wow, let’s do that again” no matter how many agains come before it.”

This film is proof of “Never judge a book by its cover”, you will know what I mean when you have seen it. Mark Brown gave Kick-Ass 10 out of 10, and I give it 5 out of fucking 5.

The Messenger of Woe

“On a barrow hill stands alone
An old shadowed oak by silence marred,
from which the ropes of death
Hangs idle in the breeze.

The throne of the messenger of woe
Waiting for the trumpet’s call, and
From beyond the cold mist of the horizon
Echoes the cries of the deceased.

He restlessly waits, the silhouetted crow
For another tide of the withered fall,
Cursed on this place without time or breath,
Longing, in vain, for the day of his eternal release…”
